To facilitate the general public for living with peace and tranquillity, maintaining law and order in the district is the primary duty of Police. Besides, Crowd management inside Sri Jaganath Temple, traffic management in this district are of paramount importance. Further, safety and security of general public & VIPs and also prevention and detection of crimes are also major responsibility of Puri district Police.Puri district is always alert and vigilant to render service to the people. In Puri Town, round the clock PCR mobile is operating. Besides, Life Guards have been deployed in Sea shore to rescue the tourists in case of accidental drowning. One round the clock control room is functioning in the district. Roles and Responsibilities of District Police:

Village Disputes :

Strong ill feeling between certain villages under Brahmagiri, Krushnaprasad, Gadisagoda Police Station is prevailing. In view of extra alertness of District Police no major law and order situation has been noticed.

Communal :

There are Muslim population in Kakatpur, Nimapara, Balanga, and Gop P.Ss area. Some Muslim dominate villagers are there in Satyabadi, Bramhagiri, Delang and Kanas P.Ss areas and there are two Muslims bastis in Puri Town. The Muslims community members are observing their fairs and festivals peacefully and are living in communal harmony with Hindus.

Students :

Among the major Educational Institutions, SCS, College, Puri, GhanashyamHemalata Institute of Technology and Management, Odisha Engineering College, Krupajal Engineering College of the district are having good numbers of students. The students also agitate some times for their demands.

Initiatives to tackle Law and Oder Situation:

Special initiative taken under the District to improve law and order :- All PSs have been instructed to collect advance intelligence regarding any possible trouble. The Policepersonnel of the district are advised to keep watch over the movement of Extremists / Naxlites. All field officers have been advised to sensitize to to the field functionaries to keep sharp watch over the communal situations and attend all matter relating to land disputes and visit spot followed by enquiry, submit PRs and such intervention of revenue officials to solve the chronic issues. All PS level officer have been instructed to organize a special drive to reduce the pendency of warrants in their PS and to look die hard anti-social / liquor mafia / tender mafia in their PS under NSA to maintain peace.

Circular and Notification :

District Circular Orders have been periodically issued to all Police posts including to compare the non-affair register with the non-affair register of CSIs once in a month and thereafter IsIC /OsIC to compare the register with Court register. DCO has been issued regarding discussion and registration of atrocity cases against SC / ST people and entrustment of officer to take up its investigation. Puri district is headed by Superintendent of Police, Puri and has been divided into 04 Police Sub–Divisions i.e. Puri City, Sadar, Nimapara&Pipili.
