Crime Scenario


Comparative Crime Chart indicating crime figures for last 3 years is enclosed herewith to know the crime position of the district at a glance.
TOTAL COG. CASE

During the year 2014 upto 31.12.2014 all altogether 4728 cases have been registered against 4334 cases of corresponding period of previous year and  TA of 4130.3 in this district. Crime under this head has increased by 14.5% while compared with TA.

Out of 4728 cases reported, 3012 cases have been charge sheeted, 210 cases returned as FRT, 161 cases as false, 81 cases returned as MF/ML, 5 cases returned as NC, 4 cases transferred on the point of jurisdiction and remaining 1255 cases are pending investigation of which 907 cases are likely to be charge sheeted. Thus, taking LCS cases into consideration, the percentage of detection is 87.5%. 6145 male and 352 female persons have been arrested in these cases.
1269 cases are pending investigation up to end of 30.11.2014 for more than 30 days in this district. All the pending cases are being reviewed from time to time to reduce the pendency. Due to engagement of officers in law and order duties in various festive occasions, adequate number of cases could not be closed. All out efforts are being taken to minimize the pendency.

 MURDER CASES

54 cases have been reported during the year 2014 upto 31.12.2014 against 64 cases of corresponding period of previous year and TA of 57.5. Crime under this head has shown decreased by 5.7% while compared with the TA.

Out of 54 cases, 24 cases have been charge sheeted, 1 case returned as False and rest 29 cases are pending investigation of which 21 cases are likely to be charge sheeted. Taking LCS cases into consideration, the percentage of detection comes to 84.9%. 82 male and 5 female persons have been arrested in these cases.

The motive of these 54 murder cases are  32 cases for dowry, 1 case for gain,  8 cases for personal vendetta, 2 cases for property dispute and  rest  11 cases are due to other cause. In these 54 cases 22 male and 32 female persons have been killed.

DACOITY CASES:
32 cases have been reported during the period against 16 cases of corresponding period of  previous year and  TA of 19.6. Crime under this head has increased by 63.2% while compared with the TA.

Out of these 32 cases ,15 cases have been charge sheeted, 2 cases returned as False and rest 15 cases are pending investigation and 9 cases are likely to be charge sheeted Thus, taking LCS cases into consideration, the percentage of detection is 80 %,. 142 male persons have been arrested  in these cases.

Out of 32 cases, 5 cases at Ress. Premises, 1 case at commercial place , 15 cases detected at attempted stage, 4 cases on High way and 7 cases at other place. Properties worth Rs.11,87,866/-have been  stolen against recovery of  Rs 1,16,080/-.

ROBBERY CASE:

102 cases have been reported during the period against 113 cases of  corresponding period of previous year and TA of 106.3. Crime under this head has decreased by 4.1% over the TA.
Out of  102 cases reported, 56 cases have been charge sheeted, 5 cases returned as FRT , 1 case returned as NC, 1 cases returned as False and  remaining 39 cases are pending investigation of which 20 cases are likely to be charge sheeted. Thus, taking LCS cases into consideration, the percentage of detection comes to 76%.  129 male persons have been arrested in these cases.
Out of 102 robbery cases, 8 cases have been occurred at residential promises, 29 cases on high way/road, 24 cases at commercial places, 2 cases detected at attempted stage and 39 cases are at other places. Properties worth Rs.28,09,395/-  have been robbed in these cases of which  properties worth Rs.4,22,075/- have been recovered.

BURGLARY CASE

241 cases have been reported during the period against 189 cases of corresponding period of previous year and  TA of 182.6 showing increase of crime by 31.9% while compared with the TA.

Out of 241 cases reported, 72 cases have been charge sheeted, 61 cases returned as FRT, 1 case returned as MF/ML, 6 cases returned as False  and rest 101 cases are pending investigation of which 23 cases are likely to be charge sheeted. Thus, taking LCS cases into consideration, the percentage of detection comes to 40.5%. 139 male and 2 female persons have been arrested in these cases.

The MOs of 241 Burglary cases are W-4, S-2, C-3, L-193, MB-39.
Out of 241 burglary cases, 134 cases occurred at residential places, 4 cases in Banks, 36 cases at commercial places, 67 cases at other places and 1 case due to burglary without theft, 6 cases detected at attempted stage, 4 cases due to day burglary and. Properties worth Rs.141,28,829/- have been stolen out of which properties worth Rs.24,34,782/- have been recovered.
All the OsIC/IsIC/DSP City Puri/SDPOs have been instructed to take sincere efforts for detection of property offence cases.

THEFT CASES.

449 cases have been reported during this period against 449 cases of the corresponding period of the previous year and TA of 221.3 showing increase of crime by 102.8% while compared with the TA.

Out of 449 cases reported, 213 cases have been charge sheeted, 88 cases returned as FRT, 1 case returned as MF/ML, 1 case returned as NC, 8 cases returned as False and  remaining  138 cases are pending investigation of which 41 cases are likely to be charge sheeted bringing percentage of detection to 57.8%. 238 male and 19 female persons have been arrested in these cases.

The MOs of 449 cases are AW-12, H-62, CY-8, CP-3, F-2, PP-15, AMT-150 and MT-197. Properties worth Rs.212,33,728/- have been stolen out of which properties worth Rs.87,41,031/- have been recovered.

All OsIC/IsIC have been instructed to take adequate preventive measures to keep the property offence cases under control.

SWINDLING CASES

117 cases have been reported during the period  against 105 cases of corresponding period of the previous year and  TA of 74.6. showing increase of crime by 56.8% while compared with the TA.
Out of 117 cases reported , 29 cases have been charge sheeted, 3 cases returned as FRT, 7 cases have been MF/ML, 2 cases transferred and rest 76 cases are   pending investigation of which 21 cases are likely to be charge sheeted bringing the percentage of detection to 46.2%. 47 male  and 5 female persons have been arrested in these cases.

RIOTING CASES:-

117 cases have been reported during the period against 139 cases of the corresponding period of the previous year and TA of 124.3 showing decrease of crime by 5.8% while compared with the TA.

Out of 117 cases reported, 68 cases have been charge sheeted, 2 cases returned as FRT, 4 cases returned as False, 1 case transferred and rest 42 cases are pending investigation of which 32 cases are likely to be charge sheeted. Thus, taking LCS cases into consideration, the percentage of detection comes to 90.1%. 543 male and 10 female persons have been arrested in these cases.
Out of 117 cases, 24 cases reported  due to village dispute, 16 cases due to political reason, 3 cases due to casteism and rest 74 cases are due to other reason. 

MV ACCIDENT CASES:-

460 cases have been reported during the period against 476 cases of the corresponding period of the previous year and TA of 457.6. Crime under this head has been increased by 0.5% while compared with the TA.

Out of 460 cases reported, 340 cases have been charge sheeted, 7 cases returned as FRT, 2 cases returned as MF/ML and rest 111 cases are pending investigation of which 97 cases are likely to be charge sheeted. Thus, taking LCS cases into consideration, the percentage of detection comes to 95.4%. 389 male persons have been arrested in these cases.
During this year 137 persons have been died, 311 persons received grievous injury, 136 person received simple injuries in those MV accident cases. Total 595  MV PRs have been submitted. 2 Nos of Mobile Court have been held in which Rs 7,200/- fine realized.

RAPE CASES:

73 cases have been reported during the period against 58 cases of the corresponding period of the previous year and TA of 39.3. Crime under this head has shown increase by 85.7% while compared with the TA.

Out of 73 cases reported, 41 cases have been charge sheeted, 2 cases returned as MF/ML, 1 case returned as false and rest 29 cases are pending investigation of which 25 cases are likely to be charge sheeted. Thus, taking LCS cases in to consideration the percentage of detection comes to 94.2%. 58 male and 3 female persons have been arrested in these cases.

Out of 73 cases, 4 cases reported  due to SC & ST girls victimized, 10 cases reported due to male refusing to marry after sex act, 28 cases reported due to minor girls victimized, 5 cases due to attempt to rape, 2 cases reported due to rape committed by relatives and 24 cases reported due to other reasons.

MISC. CASES:

3083 cases have been reported during the period against 2725 cases of the corresponding period of the previous year and TA of  2847. Crime under this head has shown increase by 8.2% while compared with the TA.

Out of 3083 cases reported, 2154 cases have been charge sheeted, 44 cases returned as FRT, 138 cases returned as  false, 68 cases returned as MF/ML, 3 cases returned as NC, 1 case transferred and rest 675 cases are pending investigation of which 618 cases are likely to be charge sheeted. Thus, taking LCS cases into consideration the percentage of detection comes to 96.4%. 4378 male and 308 female persons have been arrested in these cases.
